Spurs 2-1 Gunners: Not just defence, but the whole game

Typical derby day, typical defeat, typical Arsenal..

Quick fired Spurs blasted through that static Arsenal defence before the break and we couldn't come back, that's the game.

As usual, Arsenal knew this was a must-win game for them if they are to have a chance to win a place in the Champions League. They came in the game with such energy and pace and power, dominated the whole match with 60% of possesion. Giroud had early chances, so did Theo and Ramsey.

36 minutes gone, Arsenal was still in favour to get the first goal of the game as their midfielders continued to out-quality the Spurs'. When suddenly, another denfensive error let Bale slipped through behind and took Spurs in front. Expectedly, same thing happened 2 minutes later, this time, it's Lennon.

We did fight back, can't deny our efforts, but it was never enough. We were always lacked of ideas, too narrow minded and too inefficient. How many times have we seen this story?

Arsenal was only using 30% of the pitch

The 60% of the possession was only around the midfield and the defensive third. Arsenal was lacked of a Robin Van Persie, yes we all say that without him now the team is more balance, but in reality, without him it was just a bunch of average players that pass and run around outside of the penalty box. Jack is good, but by himself he can not lift this whole Arsenal team up, considering he's already too good for a 19 years old.

Both sides had 11 shots, Spurs got 4 on goal, we had 2. We connected only 4 crosses out of the 26 in total. They didn't outpass, didn’t have more play in the final third, didn’t really even have to tackle, beat Arsenal in interceptions by just 1, didn’t out-dribble Arsenal, didn’t win many aerial duels, did a terrible job clearing their lines, and yet they still beat us.

Vermaelen was terrible. I have said this before, a while after he was put on the captain armband. The pressure from captaincy really has shadowed his form. From a man who was always dependable for the backline to a man who always looked like he is in fear and confusion. Why was Koscienly on the bench yesterday?

Surprisingly, Giroud played the whole 90 minutes, while shocked Podolski didn't play. I was never a fan of Giroud, yes he is getting better, but he was never a consistent striker, and will never be.

Arsenal needed a change, I thought, and if the Arabs take over that might be the start. They will decide Wenger's fate if they are on board.

Till tomorrow Gooners, the future is still there to be decided.
